Niagara Falls is one of the world’s greatest natural wonders expanding between the province of Ontario, Canada and the state of New York in the United States! In this blog post is a Niagara Falls two-day itinerary, how to get to Niagara Falls in Ontario, Canada, getting around and the best place to stay!
My husband and I went to Niagara Falls for our first wedding anniversary during COVID and it was the most romantic unique experience!
The best time to visit Niagara Falls is during the summer as the boat tour closes for the winter season.
If you are travelling from a province in Canada or even from overseas Toronto is the airport to fly into. From Vancouver, you can book a non-stop direct flight to Toronto.
You can book a train from Toronto to Niagara Falls via the VIA Rail Canada website. From Toronto to Niagara Falls it takes around 3 hours by train.
The other option is to hire a car in Toronto and drive to Niagara Falls. We hired a car for 2 days on carrentals.com for around USD 30 from Routes Car Rental near Toronto International Airport.
It’s only a 1 and half hour drive to Niagara Falls from Toronto and an easy SCENIC drive on the highway around Lake Ontario. Hiring a car is the best option as it gives you more flexibility and freedom.
The best place you can stay at is a room with a view of Niagara Falls, and a hotel that has this is the Tower Hotel at Fallsview.
The room itself is pretty standard but the view of Niagara Falls and the floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall windows is what makes it an incredible place to stay!
Make sure to book the Fallsview Tower King Room which is located on the upper floors of the hotel.
The hotel is in a convenient location as you can walk to Niagara Falls from here! Parking is available at an additional cost.
Niagara Falls is the best sight to wake up to! Watching the sunrise over the falls and eating IHOP pancakes and waffles in our room with a glass of champagne was the perfect morning for our anniversary!
The best way to explore Niagara Falls is by walking and if you’re staying in a central location the places to visit listed below will be within walking distance.
There’s a WEGO bus system that you can use to get to and from your hotel and attractions. For more information or to purchase tickets visit the Table Rock Visitor Centre located directly in front of Horseshoe Falls. They do have Uber here if you prefer it over public transportation.
Take a scenic walk along Niagara Parkway where you will have amazing views of the falls and awesome photo opportunities!
You can’t come to Niagara Falls and not to the boat ride to the falls! Although it’s only a 20-minute boat ride it was the most exhilarating 20 minutes of my Niagara Falls two-day itinerary.
There are 3 waterfalls at Niagara Falls: American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Horseshoe Falls and they all lead into the Niagara River.
The Hornblower Cruise boat tour will take you to view all three waterfalls as it takes you down Niagara River and under Horseshoe Falls. The best part is coming face-to-face with the famous Horseshoe Falls! You get to feel the mist, hear the power and see the majestic falls surrounding you.
Our experience at Niagara Falls was probably something we would have never experienced if it wasn’t for COVID.
Normally the boat holds 700 passengers but during COVID no more than 100 passengers were allowed on board which is less than 15% capacity.
On my boat tour, there were only 10 people! The funny thing was as soon as we boarded everybody rushed to the top front deck probably because they thought that this would give the best view but my husband went to the bottom deck and realized there was no one down there so we ended up having the whole bottom deck to ourselves!!
We got our tripod out and took so many videos and photos with no one in them and had all the space to do it. Being under the falls and close to it felt so amazing especially because it felt like it was just the two of us!
We paid around CAD 70 for both of us and booked through the Viator website. At the time of planning, this was the cheapest price I could find.
Journey Behind the Falls offers an AMAZING view of the falls from below and behind.
Be prepared for your descent of 125 feet where you will be taken to walk through the 130-year-old tunnels leading you behind Horseshoe Falls. You will hear the thunderous falls before you see them!
Make sure to visit the upper and lower observation decks for an incredible close-up view of the falls. This was my favourite spot and again when we visited it was just my husband and me here so we had the whole observation deck to ourselves!
Journey Behind the Falls is located at Table Rock Welcome Centre along Niagara Parkway. Paid parking is available across the street at Falls Parking Lot.
Admission is $15.50 per adult and you can buy your tickets online on the Viator website.
If you can afford it I recommend dining at the Revolving Restaurant in Skylon Tower! The Revolving Restaurant rotates 360 degrees every hour giving you a unique view of Niagara Falls.
Depending on how long you stay at the restaurant you may be able to view the falls a few times on rotation and see it both at sunset and night.
Dining at the Revolving Restaurant includes admission to the Ride-to-the-Top and Observation Deck attractions. I highly suggest making a reservation on the Skylon Tower website in advance if you plan on dining here.
The food is delicious and the service is impeccable! The live piano performance set a romantic mood and the ambiance of the restaurant created the perfect date night.
The quality of the food, the dinner views, and the admission to the observation deck is worth the money spent!
There is no better way to finish the day than watching the Niagara Falls Illumination. Every evening of the year Niagara Falls is lit in glowing colours. Visit the Niagara Parks Website for the Falls Illumination Schedule.
The main strip is like a mini version of the strip in Vegas. Located on Clifton Hill and within walking distance from Niagara Parkway, this strip is full of attractions, restaurants, and entertainment.
The strip is usually packed with tourists but when we visited there was hardly anyone around which meant we didn’t have to line up for attractions and we got most of the attractions to ourselves!
The best way to save money on the attractions is to purchase a 4 Attraction Fun Pass which costs around CAD 56 for 2 adults. You can choose from multiple attractions such as Niagara SkyWheel, Dinosaur Adventure Mini Golf, Movieland Wax Museum, Zombie Attack, etc. Visit the Clifton Hill Website for a full list of attractions on the strip.
A fun place to eat located on the main strip is the Rainforest Cafe! If you have been to the one at Disneyland in Anaheim then you will know what this place is all about. The Rainforest Cafe is a jungle-themed restaurant with animated animals that move at times during your dining.
What I love about the Rainforest Cafe is its large selection of food and cocktails!
This completes your Niagara Falls two-day itinerary and you would have seen Niagara Falls from every angle (from above, behind, below and in front)!
