Koh Lipe is Thailand’s paradise and has been named the “Maldives of Thailand”.
Koh Lipe, situated in the southernmost part of Thailand, is definitely a destination that you shouldn’t miss. Despite the lengthy journey, the stunning beaches make it all worthwhile, and it’s an ideal spot for a honeymoon.
Depending on where you are travelling from, there are numerous ways to get to Koh Lipe. Book your transfers with 12go.Asia because they usually have the best prices and are the easiest to use.
The nearest airport to Koh Lip is Hat Yai. The easiest way to get from Bangkok and Phuket is to fly to Hat Yai airport and take a shuttle bus to Pak Bara Pier where you will board a speedboat to Koh Lipe.
The entrance fee to be paid at Pak Bara Pier is 20 Baht per person.
The speedboat ride takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes from Pak Bara to Koh Lipe. Take seasick tablets if you are prone to motion sickness because the boat ride can be quite rough.
Travelling from Krabi to Koh Lipe will take approximately 6-7 hours. It will take at least half a day if not more to get to Koh Lipe from anywhere else in Thailand, so plan to stay for at least 3 nights to make it worthwhile.
The island is relatively small so you can get around on foot, but I recommend taking a scooter taxi as there are some steep hills.
Scooter taxis cost only 50 Baht per person and will take you anywhere on the island. There are no cars on the island!
The two best places to stay on Koh Lipe are The Cliff Lipe Resort and Ten Moons Lipe Resort.
There are two main seasons in the south of Thailand:
The rainy season (from May to October) is the low season. It can rain every day for hours on end. Depending on the sea conditions, you may not be able to get there in the rainy season. In addition, many places on the island close during the off-season.
The dry season (from November to April) is the high season. Almost every day is bright and sunny, with little to no rain.
Plan to visit in the dry season (between November to April). There aren’t many indoor activities when it rains.
There are three main beaches on Koh Lipe: Sunset Beach, Sunrise Beach, and Pattaya Beach.
Sunset Beach is the best place on Koh Lipe to watch the sunset. There are fewer boats here, and you can snorkel with a variety of tropical fish and if you are lucky even turtles.
As you can guess Sunrise Beach is the best beach to watch the sunrise. The beach is lined with wooden longtail boats in the early morning and late afternoon. They are used by the locals for fishing and excursions.
Pattaya Beach is where the speedboats arrive and depart on Koh Lipe so it can get quite busy during these times.
At the end of the right side of Pattaya Beach, there’s a boardwalk to some beautiful views and hidden beaches such as Sanom Beach.
Koh Lipe is the island for relaxing by the beach, sunbathing, swimming in the ocean, snorkelling, kayaking and paddle boarding.
Walking street is the main street in Koh Lipe and has tons of restaurants, bars and shops.
The beachfront restaurant On the Rocks at Serendipity Beach Resort has the best views on the island. They frequently have drink specials and are also a great place to eat lunch.
During your visit to Koh Lipe, you can look forward to starting your day with breathtaking sunrises at Sunrise Beach, engaging in water activities throughout the day, enjoying the lively bars and restaurants on Walking Street, and ending the day with a mesmerizing sunset at Sunset Beach.
